No plans to attend there weekly; probably once a month. I’d like the children to be able to learn about, and maybe learn to love, what they’ve never had a chance to participate in — I’ve only been to one Latin Mass in my whole life and am quite excited to go again, now that we know a bit more of the whys and hows.

Some ironic twist to the weekend last: I was looking forward to hearing Fr.’s comments on the Motu Proprio, if any, but remembered at the last minute that I had church library duty, and since I’m still the only one driving (for one more week) we had to change our schedule and instead attended Mass in the evening at another parish. Argh. It was their contemporary Mass and it was like being at a jazz concert. I’m not saying God wasn’t there, but it does make it hard to concentrate on God’s presence when all around are men in shorts and women in spaghetti straps (bra straps showing too)… The homily was about how God was calling us to be holy, and the priest said, “holy” is not a word that’s attractive to young people anymore, but that basically, the Lod is just asking us to be the best example of humanity we can be; no concrete examples were given, he left it at that. While I agree with this, I think the call to holiness is more — I wish we could have heard more about suffering, and sacrifice, dying to self…. my children need to hear this more often, just as much as I do.

I am getting old, it seems. When I was younger these things didn’t bother me, but now I find I’m looking for more quiet, more solemnity, more reverence. I miss Fr. Kurt Hartrich who delivered the most moving sermons. And if I had wanted a jazz concert I would have gone to one. The radio plays jazz music and rock music everyday and I can turn it on ANYTIME; worshipping the Lord on Sunday really should be set apart in more ways than one. Sigh.
