Last month, I ordered a case of yogurt, meaning to make a bunch of recipes with it. The same month, hubby had to be on recovery from surgery, complex recipes were put on hold, and we stuck with tried-and-true. Except for the occasional smoothie and bran muffin (the secret is the yogurt!) for me, I let the yogurt sit and wait. So now I *have to* use them up. I still have the recipes, but I’ve lost interest in most of them. However, I’d love to try *your* favorite yogurt recipe. I know this is supposed to be a dairy-free blog now, but I’m stuck with these tubs of yogurt and I’m the only person in the house who can really eat it — and I need to…. fast.
PS I’d eat it daily with some Greek honey but because it’s not Greek yogurt the taste is really off and they just DON’T go together. I’ve tried.
Try draining your yogurt (line a strainer with a paper towel, put the strainer over a bowl and let the liquid drain away). Let it drain overnight or a day or two. You’ll get a thicker product which you can flavor (suggest adding the juice of a lemon, honey and frozen raspberries). Other ideas are using canned peaches, frozen strawberries, a dash of vanilla, coconut and canned pineapple, or whatever sounds good. Or make a yogurt spread using herbs, such as dill, that you can use in a sandwich or on crackers.
I love yogurt but don’t really have any yogurt recipes, sorry. I eat it with fruit or cereal , drizzled with honey or nuts. That’s it. But if I lived near, I would gladly help you consume the leftover stash. 🙂
yogurt coffee cake

I made it yesterday, it looks and smells gorgeous. it uses a whole cup of yogurt too, so that could help you out a bit. if you like coffee cake, that is.
Try making yogurt smoothies, just get some of your favorite fruits and add yogurt and whiz.
Thanks for all the suggestions! I’ll try using a tub a day until it’s used up, about 1 cup for me to eat/drink and the rest for recipes to freeze…. This should be fun. I’ll post again on this mission later:).
I use soy yogurt for this, but originally saw it with regular yogurt (Prevention Magazine). In short, blend yogurt and fruit together (maybe 1/2 cup each?), then freeze, stirring every 30 minutes for about 4 hours, I believe. It makes a yummy sorbet-like dessert. We’ve tried it with berries and canteloupe so far.
If it is plain yogurt, my favorite thing to do with it is to make maast oo hiar. Mix the yogurt with one diced (or grated and with the excess mosture squeezed out) cucumber, finely chopped mint, and salt. I like yorgurt mixed with cooked spinach.
Loving the suggestions!
Crystal, I’m glad you posted that as I’d been thinking about making frozen yogurt — still got a bunch of frozen fruit that needs to be used up too — great idea!
I’d also forgotten how good smoothies are. A few years ago I went through a smoothie phase and I got so tired of it I haven’t made one in a while, but now I’m trying new flavors and finding out that I still like it!
hmm, sounds very yummy, obsoletepostergirl. like tzatziki, right? yeah, that would be yummy on some grilled fish or chicken. thanks!
