August 21. From my aunt’s garden in St. Louis (you wouldn’t believe her patch — 12 squash seeds took over a big part of her yard!). I never knew Filipinos also used squash blossoms in their cooking! This went into a hot gingery vegetable stew. Yum!

hey stef, i love squash blossoms! nanay would always have them in her inabraw, or dinendeng. sometimes she’ll just have them blanched and make a salad with tomatoes, onions, bagoong na isda and calamansi. yum!
i heard it is great in pakbet! my favorite is stuffed with ricotta and cooked in marinara sauce…i had no luck growing them in the garden, testament to my black thumbs. may we ask your aunt for the secret??? i love the photo stef!
testimonial? heehee.
how was the trip stef? hello to kids…
It came to me as surprise the first time I encountered a squash flower n my food. I didn’t even know it existed! It was just like Mike said It was heavenly. I had yet to see it in pakbet, though.
Oh yes, famous among the Ilocanos. They’re good for dinengdeng and for pakbet as well.
In Turkey,we make dolmas with squash blossoms and they are unbelieveble!
