A long time ago, (in a galaxy far far away), we stopped buying hot chocolate mixes. Reason being we didn’t want all the artificial stuff that comes in them. I started making hot chocolate from scratch using this recipe. The kids didn’t take to it, however, which turned out to be a good thing because we found out about their dairy allergies soon after that (they still have dairy these days but carefully monitored). They started calling my formula “Mom’s hot chocolate”, even though it (or a slight variation) appears in most cocoa powder boxes. NO ONE liked MY hot chocolate, except for me — 14-year old daughter invented a hot chocolate concoction using rice milk, which I must say is quite good. Every now and then I’d make *my* formula to satisfy *my* chocolate craving, and they’d take a sip, but they’d always turn up their noses in disgust, still missing that Swiss Miss flavor I guess.

Sunday, Yena woke up too late to have breakfast before church, so we dressed her up and brought some toast and *my* hot chocolate in the van. She finished it, no questions asked. So today she asks me for some.

Me: Okay, I’ll make you some, but it’s *mom’s* hot chocolate.
Yena: No, I don’t like that, I like the other one.
Me: Which one?
Yena: The one you made for me.
Me: Yes, that’s *my* hot chocolate.
Yena: No, the one you made when we went to church!
Me: That’s *my* hot chocolate.
Yena: No, the one you made and put in the green cup!
Me: Yena, that’s *my* hot chocolate.
Yena: I like that.
Migi: Could I have some too?
