A joint effort between 14-yo daughter and me. I made the dough early in the day, meaning to roll, fill and bake in the afternoon in time for “teatime”, but got busy instead with the garden until it was almost dinnertime. Luckily, Aisa is quite the baker and has been for years, so I asked her to finish up the recipe for me and she obliged. She’s also becoming a consummate blogger, and like the rest of the family is a foodie in more ways than one. So the cookies were baked, and she took this pic.
I’d post the recipe but I can’t find it right now, it was on the label of the lekvar can. Maybe if my daughter posts it on her blog I can link it here.
Edited 6/17/05: the original recipe can be found here.
In the meantime, here are some hamantaschen recipes from epicurious.com.
I don’t know what it is about Jewish recipes that attract me. And I’ve always wondered why my Jewish friends love Chinese food. My hubby’s landlady long ago, who was Jewish, used to sneak Chinese food into the house that she did not want her sister to see (she was not supposed to be eating pork from a non-kosher establishment). What’s funny is that once she and her sister took us out to lunch at a Chinese restaurant that served an unbelievably good hot and sour soup…. I miss Mrs. Z. The last two times we were in St. Lou and called her, her phone was disconnected….
Stef maybe food doesnt see a religion boundary?
I miss my Libyan friends.. I used to go to their home for a real home made arabic cooking.
Your daughter has got your cooking talent and great photo too pass the message to her ok.
Just busy M has been ill the last few days too ako lagi sa kusina we take turns cooking!
Yup, food is a universal language that it transcends any manmade boundaries. It’s interesting though that my Jewish friends are into Chinese food in particular — I mean, not Thai, not Korean, etc. Some people speculate it’s because only Chinese restaurants are open during Christian holidays, so Jewish people who eat out on those days end up there.
Sorry to hear about your hubby, hope he feels better soon.
I’ll tell my daughter about your comment. I’m sure she’ll appreciate it. Thanks:)
I’m also attracted to Jewish dessert recipes, even the bread. I have a passion for making (and eating!) babkas.
BTW, what’s the URL of your daughter’s blog?
