from a recipe in Baking with Julia again, this one contributed by Lauren Groveman. the recipe can be found here in its entirety. although, i found someone who’s not quite happy with Groveman’s “liberal” use of chocolate, coffee, lekvar, etc. and insists it’s not “REAL” pumpernickel bread. i am quite pleased with the flavor and texture of this bread, though. sometimes you just gotta go for what tastes good, no matter if it’s not wholly traditional. this is going to be used for some tea sandwiches as well as for some Reubens — yum!
