We are making hot cocoa peppermint mix from scratch (except for the Coffeemate which makes it really yummy), for gifts! So I’m having my 11-yo figure out the math for these:

Mom has determined the formula for each delicious cup of cocoa to be:

1 1/2 tbsp cocoa powder
2 tbsp sugar
1 1/2 tbsp Cofeemate
3 tbsp instant dry milk
1/8 tsp vanilla extract
1/16 tsp salt
10 pcs marshmallows
1 tbsp. crushed candy cane sticks
for about 8-9 tbsp. mix per cup of hot cocoa

Mom measured and found the following volume information for each ingredient:

5 tbsp. milk = 1/4 cup
5 tbsp. sugar = 1/4 cup
4 1/4 tbsp cocoa powder = 1/4 cup
4 1/4 tbsp. Coffeemate = 1/4 cup
1 tbsp. vanilla extract = 24 1/8 tsps.
1 tbsp. salt = 48 1/16 tsp.
23 marshmallows = 1/4 cup
4 tbsp crushed candy cane = 1/4 cup

The amount of “hot cocoa formula” we can mix up will be determined by how much instant dry milk we have. If we have 11 cups of instant dry milk,

1. How many cups of “formula” would that make?

2. How much do we need of each ingredient to make up the formula?

3. If each gift bag holds an amount equivalent to 8 cups of hot cocoa, will there be any left for our family to enjoy?

I should have included calculation problems for figuring out cost per batch. Heee…. maybe tomorrow.
