Joel Osteen ‘s message can hardly even be called Christian… I browsed a book the other day at B&N and found nary a scripture passage, the headings were mostly about how God wants us to feel good about ourselves, blah blah blah…. all this positive thinking…. based on what? Years ago when we were in a networking business, something bothered me about the way one of the speakers tied in spirituality with money, money and more money. Joel Osteen’s message strikes me as a bit too similar to this. If God meant for me to be wealthy (in the secular meaning of wealthy), why didn’t Jesus come as royalty? If suffering doesn’t bring me to God, then why did He have to die on the cross for my sin?
And yeah, why him? When there’s Fulton Sheen, St. Augustine, St. Therese, Scott Hahn, Patrick Madrid, Peter Kreeft, Fr. Corapi, Fr. Lovasik….
Post sparked by an opinion I saw on a “friend”‘s site. I probably won’t be going there anymore.
