I’ve received some inquiries about the products that we use since we have allergies in the family, so I thought I’d list them here:
Toothpaste – We still have some Crest that we’re trying to use up, but after that it’s my very own homemade toothpaste. I’ll post the recipe(s) soon. We tried Peelu after reading about them on EWG, but yuck! We also like Tom’s of Maine Strawberry and their Grape liquid toothpaste, but I hear they’ve been bought by Colgate so I don’t know how safe they’ll stay — will have to keep an eye on that one.
Dishwashing detergent (hand) – Sun and Earth right now, though we’ve tried different natural/organic brands and haven’t encountered anything yet that disappointed.
Automatic Dishwasher detergent – We’re still using Cascade, because we haven’t found a really good one that does the job it’s supposed to do. Although it may be our dishwasher. Our Bosch that we had installed in our previous house (I still miss it — sniff!) cleaned EVERYTHING so well, it was one of the best purchases we ever made. I’ve tried different organic/natural dishwasher detergents but haven’t found “the one” yet. Maybe I’ll try Seventh Generation next.
Cleaning products – Vinegar and baking soda for the most part, though I’ve got some Dr. Bronner too, which I still haven’t tried.
Laundry detergent – All Free and Clear. I’ve had great results with Bi-O-Kleen as well.
No fabric softener here.
No bleach either. But when I absolutely have to I use some of our leftover Amway all-fabric or chlorine bleach.
I don’t really care about permanent-press stuff. We throw everything in the wash according to warm-hot-cold-darks-lights. And just iron anything that needs to be pressed.
Shampoo: Right now our kids use Aubrey Organics and hubby uses Terressentials — both of which need replenishing soon. I haven’t tried making my own — maybe I should. I’m also wanting to call Suki of Suki’s Naturals — because she suffered from eczema herself (like my hubby and kids) and had to develop her own products.
