Aisa and I have been working on High School of Your Dreams. She’s picked her texts and I’ve ordered most of them. We have to backtrack to Algebra 1 because I mistakenly assumed she was done and had her do Geometry first! Which is funny because I think she did quite well with Geometry even though she didn’t have the prerequisites. Still have to decide what we’re doing with Science — today! Also need to investigate volunteer opportunities — she’s signed up for a couple of things at church but I’d love to do more as a family.

Paco has been into all kinds of things lately! He borrowed a bunch of books on race cars and has asked me and Dad if he can get started with slot cars. I’m not putting the brakes on him reading about these, but they really have so many toys already to get started on a new “collection”. So we’re talking it through. Maybe in the summer when he and Dad can work on it together. He’s also fascinated with flight and has borrowed a bunch of books on the Wright brothers. Needless to say a week without going to the library and the kids feel utterly deprived. He’s also been doing great with reading — recent reads include Frindle, Journey to the River Sea (with our Brazil studies) and a couple of other books he and Aisa both enjoyed. I’ll be requesting more classics today.

Migi has been into rocks and minerals and gemstones and fossils and all kinds of things lately. Last night he was perusing the Rock and Mineral field guide for a couple of hours. Bugging me and Dad to take him to Eagle’s Nest Mine in Placer Co., California where gold can be found. Either that or South Africa because he wants to find a diamond LOL. I told him we’ve got one right here and showed him my earrings. “Oh, but that’s so small, Mom.”

I was quite surprised that he made it through the seven-mile walk he and Paco and Dad did over the weekend in preparation for Black Belt testing this weekend. With the almost-pneumonia bouts this past month and the cough still not completely disappearing I must admit I had minimal expectations. Not so Dad, who knows when it’s right to push his boys, at just the right time and with the right “buttons”. Thank God for him.

Yena is so funny. She’s been playing some variation of “Ode to Joy” on the piano almost daily. No one taught her that. One of the many serendipities of having a musical instrument around. I need to look into guitars before Aisa’s birthday! And I really need to play more. For the kids. And me too.

Last night we were late with supper (Aisa took over the butternut-squash-ravioli-making) and Yena got too sleepy before dinnertime so she went up and slept at the top of the stairs. Migi alerted us so Dad moved her downstairs to the couch. When we started dinner she must have woken up and found us too noisy so she went up the stairs again (in the dark) where she slept on the landing until 9:30 or so. And then she had her dinner — cereal (she would have none of the ravioli).

As for the ravioli, Aisa said they were too vegan for her. LOL. She saw the pics of the pork chops last night (from last week) and asked that I make them again.

Okay. Gotta get started with our day.
