I’ve never been much of a nature person. Probably because neither of my parents were — or at least the type to explain scientific facts in nature, etc. But they did take us to places where we could enjoy God’s creation. At any rate, I’m happier within the confines of my four walls than I am walking in the woods… though I know how important it is for my kids to be able to experience more of the outdoors. So I’m VERY thankful that our new home has an actual mini-woods right outside the door. Not a real forest, but enough trees and bushes to attract a bit of wildlife every now and then. Almost daily Yena yells, “Mom, a squirrel, a squirrel, a squirrellllll!!!!”, or “Mom, there’s that red bird (a cardinal) again!” I’m glad there aren’t any deers though — those adorable creatures gobbled up several plants I had growing last year in our old home — including the berries and the corn. And the rabbits got the bulk of my lettuces. Haven’t seen Bambi or Peter Rabbit here yet, but I’m not anticipating that! Thank goodness my kids are very different from me this way.
