One of these things is not like the others….

But if we’re the least bit uncomfortable about the difference, we’re told it’s only because of our “Western sensibilities”. Okay then.

Here’s a compilation of Marian apparitions/images of popular devotion, and the places where Mama Mary appeared/the image originated… as we can see, not always “the West”.

Top row, from left:

Our Lady of LaVang, Vietnam

Our Lady of Zeitoun, Egypt

Our Lady of Akita, Japan

Our Lady Aparecida, Brazil

Our Lady of Lujan, Argentina

Our Lady of Altagracia, Dominican Republic

Bottom row, from left:

Our Lady of La Leche, Spain

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Mexico

Our Lady of Kibeho, Rwanda

Our Lady of Ocotlan, Mexico

and the latest… “Our Lady of the Amazon” plus one other figure some commenters have presumed to be St. Elizabeth

The Visitation by Geronimo Antonio de Ezquerra

I’ve seen the argument that we are just not being “open-minded enough”. Funny though. I thought the goal was evangelization. So my question is… Are we Christianizing pagans? Or are they paganizing us?

Pachamama is closer to Gaia, NOT Mama Mary. Mama Mary is a CREATURE, a CREATION of God. Mama Mary is NOT Mother Nature or Mother Earth. And we worship God, not Mama Mary.

Edit 10/19/19:

Came across this post from Pedro Gabriel over at Where Peter Is. Watching the video I am inclined to change my opinion re the intentions of Amazon natives, even though I still find many aspects of the Synod at least mildly disturbing… and I don’t fully trust REPAM, based on previous research into /experience with international Catholic (sometimes “Catholic”) orgs … but I will leave these things to the Holy Spirit. As an Internet commenter pointed out, we are not there (the Amazon, not Rome), and we don’t know exactly what’s going on. I find the arguments (from both sides) re finding “evidence” online pointless; confirmation bias is a thing, and I will readily admit to being guilty myself… but no matter. God is still in charge. I will wait for fruits before I evaluate further.
